When Boston builds, we Boom. Hundreds of local construction and building firms need workers who are willing to work hard and learn. I will connect the men and women of our neighborhoods with the companies who can't wait to hire them.
From Cleary Square to Lower Allston, mom-and-pop cafes and small shops are what make our neighborhoods special. They provide jobs, a path to the American Dream for small owners, and they provide the spice and flavor to our unique, diverse neighborhoods. I will SIMPLIFY permitting and regulations, LOWER COSTS for starting up, and SUPPORT our small owners as we help them get back on their feet, Together.
Fewer industries have been hit harder by the pandemic than our restaurants and gathering places. I will always respect and represent the priorities and needs of small owners, especially in these times when government mandates and requirements have been inconsistent and sometimes erratic. I will use existing tools and find creative new ways to bring resources to both owners and employees.
The City has funds set aside and programs available to small businesses (50 or fewer employees) that are really hurting right now. But many owners are so busy keeping the show going in their barber shops, dog grooming salons, and home day cares that they don't know it. That will be MY JOB. I will proactively reach out to hard working American Dreamers across Boston who can use these resources to bring stability and security back to their businesses.
They say that the only way to surely fail is not to try. I am a firm believer in dreams and those who dare to try, whether it's a juice bar, a nail salon, or a tech start-up. I will connect business start-ups with mentors and community partners for a leg up in the first crucial months of any business. I will be a resource for owners as they navigate the myriad City departments and regulations along the way. It takes a village to make a village thrive!
Union training and jobs for Boston young women and men. The PATHWAYS Program, funded by a partnership of public and private organizations, is the kind of success story that I will support, promote, and expand, because, as a union member and member of a multi-generational union family, I know that good wages and job security mean prosperity for all workers and neighborhoods.
